Minceirs Whiden Celebrates Historic Achievements in Traveller Education

Sep 6, 2024

The Minceirs Whiden team is proud to celebrate the incredible achievements of several members of the Traveller community who have recently graduated from prestigious academic institutions. These graduates exemplify what is possible for Travellers in education, overcoming challenges and breaking barriers.

Missie Collins has been awarded an honorary doctorate from University College Dublin (UCD) in recognition of her lifetime of dedication to Traveller health advocacy. This prestigious honor acknowledges her significant contributions to improving healthcare access and outcomes for Travellers across Ireland.

In a historic achievement, Thomas McCann has become the first Traveller man to earn a PhD in Ireland. His accomplishment is a powerful testament to the resilience and determination of Travellers in higher education.

Additionally, five Traveller community workers—Geraldine McDonnell, Bridget Nevin, Patrick Reilly, Megan McDonnell, and Geraldine—have received their BA in Social Science (Community and Youth Work) from Maynooth University. Their success highlights the growing representation of Travellers in the fields of community development and youth advocacy.

Minceirs Whiden is honoured to celebrate the success of these individuals, who continue to inspire and pave the way for future generations of Travellers. We look forward to seeing the remarkable impact they will have on their communities and beyond.
